January
| January 1st, noon: The Street of the Open Heart Traditional New Year’s Carnival in Svetogorska Street in the very heart of the city. It was founded by te actors of the famous Belgrade 'Atellier 212' theater and 'Srpska Kafana' restaurant. Event equally interesting for both children and adults. Actors, and musicians in close contact with people, free food and drinks and excellent atmosphere.

| January 13th: Celebration of New Year according to Julian calendar, known as 'Serbian New Year'. Julian Calendar is still only one officially recognised by the Serbian Orthodox Church and is two weeks behind the Gregorian one which is widely accepted worldwide and also by Serbian state. Lots of clubs and restaurants organize very similar programs to those for the 'regular' New Year. Fireworks and crowds in the streets and squares.

| January 19th: Twelfth-day - 'Epiphany Cross' Traditional diving for the “Epiphany Cross” in Sava Lake and on the Danube in Zemun quay. The bravest of young men test their stamina and speed in icy waters.

| Second half of February: FEST This is the most important international film festival in Serbia, also with longest tradition. It takes place in 'Sava' Congress Centre, with additional programs in Belgrade Cultural Centre and the Museum of Yugoslav Film Archives. Highly recommended.

| Joy of Europe Song, dance, friendship, understanding for other and diverse, children's creations - these are all synonyms for the international festival of the children of Europe "Joy of Europe", gathering children and youth, age 7 - 14. Founder and patron of the Manifestation is the Belgrade City Council, and the Children's Culture Center Belgrade is the organizer.

| October Art Salon Representative event featuring actual tendencies in the domain of visual arts, founded under the auspices of the City of Belgrade. It was established in 1960 as an exhibition of the best works in the sphere of fine arts. In 1967 it became an important review of the current trends in applied arts, too. Owing to its tradition of more then four decades, the October Salon represents an important segment in the study of the modern Serbian art of the second half of the 20th century. Festival of Underwater Film
An international, competitive festival, one of the largest in the world. It includes film production, underwater photography, students’ and art works. It is held in the Sava centre and the cinema of the Museum of Yugoslav Film Archives.

December 31st: New Year's Celebration
Organised celebration on the main city squares and streets, with live music and fireworks. All restaurants and discos prepare special programmes. Due to a great number of foreign visitors,
it is best to book a hotel room at least one month before the holidays.
